Therapy goals are developed by using what de Shazar (1988) calls “the miracle question.” The therapists asks, “If a miracle happened and the problem you have was solved overnight, how would you know it was solved, and what would be different? (Insoo Kim Berg)” O’Hanlon believed that the miracle question worked because changing the way clients view the perceived problem changes the problem. Discuss your beliefs on the miracle question and how you believe or don’t believe it could be an effective counseling tool.
