Description: This project involves adopting 2-3 simple environmental behaviors for 4-5 weeks. You are required to collect quantitative and qualitative data on your behavior and its consequences. The behavior is intended to reduce your family’s “carbon footprint”. A carbon footprint can be roughly equated to the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere as a result of human behaviors. To stop global warming we need to reduce our carbon footprint greatly. This project is an opportunity for you to practice this process.To start the project, you need to use a carbon footprint calculator that can be found in this website: www.carbonfootprint.com You need to calculate your carbon footprint twice, at the start and at the end of this project.First:calculate your carbon footprint and print out the results showing the date of the calculation.Showthe results to your instructor for approval.Second:list 3-5 things that you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.Third:adopt 2-3 of those environmentally conscious behaviors for 4-5 weeks, collect quantitative and qualitative data on your behavior and its consequences, then calculate your carbon footprint again and print out the results showing the date of the calculation.Showthe results to your instructor for approval.To reduce your carbon footprint often means reducing your electricity or natural gas bill, increasing your fuel economy on your (or your family) vehicle, taking a shorter 5 minutes shower instead of 20 minutes, being vegetarian for a month, biking to work or school, take public transportation, shut down your computer when not in use (you can save about $70 a year), reduce plastic-bag pollution by simply using a cloth bag instead of wasting plastic ones, use Energy Star appliances to reduce your utility bill, etc.
