Topic: Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a hot topic nowadays because of the controversy surrounding a number of applications. Chapter 10.2 in the textbook covered several of these applications, however there are others that are significant and controversial and have made the news. These include the use of stem cells, tissue engineering, genetically modified organisms (GMO) in agriculture or aquaculture, in disease diagnoses and treatment (e.g. “biologic” drugs).  Your assignment this week is to choose one specific application that relates to the human body and report on it providing benefits and risks as well as your own opinion (if you wish) on them.
